Topic: Jesus’s Commendation of Love towards you
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:1-56; Romans 5
Memory Verse: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (KJV)
The Bible in John 3:16 (KJV) says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” So God loves you and I so much that He allowed His only son to suffer such an excruciating pain that led to His death on the cross so as to save you and I! Not only this, the son Jesus Christ died for us while we were sinners! Does this really speak to you? Imagine a child that is so wayward that all he does is to cause his father pain and agony. Then one day, his sins caught up with him and was arrested and taken to court for judgment. The judge was about to send him for execution which is the punishment for the crime committed and the father decided to take his place and asked that he should be executed instead of his son! So it is not just dying for his son but dying for a son who caused him pain and was still causing him that pain till the death! This is the similitude of what God did for us. So as children of God who have been redeemed, this kind of unconditional love is what you are expected to exhibit in your relationship with God and your fellow human beings.
You are expected to love inspite of the shortcomings of the people around you. Such love particularly to fellow human beings irrespective of status, shows your obedience to God’s word. Our Lord Jesus Christ says in Luke 6:35 (KJV), “But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”
How well do you obey this command of the Almighty God? It is not how well you know it or how often you preach the word to others but how does your daily living exhibit this behaviour. It is a behavioural pattern that should be easily discerned from your actions by others that interract with you. This is why you should remind yourself continuously of the love of Christ and let it remind you of what is expected of you at all times. Romans 5:8 (KJV) says it clearly, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
If your life radiates this type of love, you will be preaching the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to all those who come across you as you overlook their offences towards you. This is what the Bible tells us in 1 Peter 4:8 (KJV), “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”
Prayer point: Father give me the grace to love like you in every area of my life.
