TOPIC: DON’T BE ANXIOUS ABOUT TOMORROW
Bible Reading: Isaiah 34–36; Philippians 2
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” — Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
Can a man ever work to impress the Creator of the whole world? How well can you prepare a meal for the same Jesus who used a little boy’s lunch of five loaves and two fish to feed five thousand men, besides women and children? Martha was “careful and troubled about many things” while Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and listened to His word (Luke 10:41–42). When we do not understand God’s ways, we can become consumed with the pressure to impress Him, solve everything ourselves, and make life work by our own strength. But the Word of God teaches us to trust Him completely: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” Proverbs 3:5 (KJV). When we rely on His Word and make His presence our confidence, we can live in His peace regardless of what is happening around us.
Worry is dangerous because it steals the joy and peace available to us today by making us anxious about what may happen tomorrow. Jesus said, “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink… Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” Matthew 6:25 (KJV). Do not allow the regrets of yesterday or the fear of tomorrow to rob you of today. You do not need to be afraid of the future because the One who knows tomorrow is already there. Even when circumstances around you are uncertain, God’s presence remains your assurance. Therefore, refuse apprehension and choose to live each day with joy, peace, and expectation of good things.
Make the presence of God your pursuit, and let His grace and unconditional love fill your heart. The Psalmist says, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” Psalm 37:4 (KJV). When God becomes your greatest delight, you can enjoy each day without being overwhelmed by tomorrow. Trust Him with what you cannot control, focus on what He has placed before you today, and refuse to carry tomorrow’s burdens ahead of time. Be joyful in the Lord, live fully in the present, and allow tomorrow to take care of itself.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the peace and security I have in You. Help me to trust You completely and refuse every form of anxiety concerning tomorrow.
