Topic: What kind of seed do you sow?
Bible Reading: Proverbs 10-12; Romans 16.
Memory Verse: “The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.” Proverbs 11:18 (KJV).
When farmers ask for the blessing of God, they are asking for their seeds to produce great harvest of whatever they have planted. So if they had sown cocoa and they called on God for the blessing, they would expect to harvest a lot of quality cocoa and not rubber. Interestingly, all human beings are like farmers spiritually because we all sow seeds in one way or the other. Your behaviour is a way of sowing seeds. Since all human beings behave in one way or the other, then we are all like farmers.
So when you ask for blessing from the almighty God, you are asking that the seeds you sow yield multiple harvests. What kind of seeds do you sow then? A good farmer sows the best quality of his harvest for the next season so that he may reap very quality harvest. In your behaviour to your family, friends, associates, acquaintances and strangers, what kind of trait do you exhibit? Is it the best of you or your worst. Interestingly, when a farmer sows, it doesn’t matter who sees him rather the quality of the product and how he nurtures the farm after sowing with the grace of God will determine the kind of harvest he will get. Similarly, eye service will not count in your harvest, it is the quality of seed that you sow and how you nurture the seed after sowing that will determine what you get at the end of the day.
As cocoa and corn have wide differences in the time of their growth and maturity, our various seeds (behaviour) have various maturity times. Some may mature almost immediately, others may be in a year or few years while some may take generations to mature. But one thing is certain, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7 (KJV).
So everyone shall be rewarded for whatsoever he sows. Proverbs 11:18 (KJV) says, “The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.” The seed being sown covers monetary and non monetary things. The question is whatever God has blessed you with, how do you use them for the benefit of human kind including yourself?
The way I often judge my performance is to ask if my action were to be made public, will I be proud of it or will cover my face in shame? If I will be proud of it, then I know it’s a behaviour I should intensify while ensuring I stop any behaviour that will bring me shame.
Action point: Examine your life and desist from sowing seeds of shame but intensify seeds of righteousness.
