TOPIC: THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD.
Bible Reading Psalm 65-68; Acts 22
“O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalm 34:8 (KJV)
God’s goodness is in abundance and is available to all who put their trust in Him. Trusting God attracts His goodness. God’s goodness is an eternal promise to those who trust Him and do His will. His goodness is our hope in the time of distress. His goodness is our anchor that keeps our faith alive, steadfast and sure while the billows roll. It is based on this the Psalmist said “Deliver me not over to the will of my enemies over unto the will of my enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, such as breathe out cruelty. I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living”. Psalm 27:12-13 (KJV). Judging from his experience he further stated in Psalm 33:18-19 (KJV), “Behold, the the eyes of the LORD is upon them that fear Him, upon them that hope in His mercy. To deliver their soul from death, and keep them alive in famine”
To confirm his experience I believe David had clear knowledge of what was talking about when he said in Psalm 34:6 (KJV), “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.” Based on this, he asks everyone to taste the Lord and experience his goodness. Tasting the Lord implies accepting him as your Lord and Saviour and living in line with the scripture! He puts a further condition; you must Trust God. Trusting God means depending on Him for all things and in all situations. And the reward is that you will be blessed.
When God blesses you, no man can change it. Romans 8:31-32 (KJV) say, “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” This does not mean that there will not be challenges or issues but God will always meet you at the point of your needs. It may not be the way you want it but it will surely be the best way for you because He knows your tomorrow which you don’t know! He cannot forget you once you trust in Him. God said to His prophet in Isaiah 49:15 (KJV), “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” So God cannot forsake you as long as you trust in him. That’s why David wrote in Psalm 34:8 (KJV), “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” If you have tasted the Lord and not experiencing goodness, please check your obedience to His words because God is good to everyone with a clean heart! (Psalm 73:1).
Action point: Father give me a thirsty and a yearning heart for you that I might taste and be a recipient of your goodness.
