TOPIC: YOUR WORSHIP IS AN OFFERING
Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 23-25; John 16:16-33
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” — John 4:23-24 (KJV)
Under the Old Covenant, Israel offered morning and evening sacrifices daily in the temple. These sacrifices were presented continually as an act of worship and devotion to God. David wrote Psalm 141 while fleeing from his son Absalom. Though separated from the temple, he realized that true worship was not confined to a physical location. He recognized that his prayers and the lifting of his hands in surrender were themselves spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God.
King David possessed remarkable insight into the realities of the New Covenant even while living under the Old Testament. He declared, “Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice” Psalm 141:2 (KJV). David understood that worship and prayer were acceptable offerings before God.
This revelation is our present reality as believers in Christ. We are now the temple of the living God, for the Scripture says, “…ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them…” 2 Corinthians 6:16 (KJV). Because Jesus Christ has already offered the perfect and final sacrifice for sin, we no longer bring animal offerings before God. Instead, we continually offer sacrifices of praise, thanksgiving, worship, and prayer through Him. Hebrews 13:15 (KJV) declares, “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” Our worship is not merely a song or an emotional expression; it is a spiritual offering that rises before God as a sweet-smelling sacrifice. Every time we lift our voices in thanksgiving or raise our hands in surrender, we honor the finished work of Christ and minister unto the Lord.
Unlike the Old Testament sacrifices that were offered only in the morning and evening, our worship is not limited by time or place. Through Christ, we have continual access into the presence of God and can offer praise wherever we are. A lifestyle of thanksgiving and worship keeps our hearts aligned with God and positions us to experience His power and grace daily.
Today, make worship your lifestyle rather than an occasional activity. Let your prayers, songs, thanksgiving, and lifted hands become continual offerings before the Lord. As you worship Him in spirit and in truth, you will experience His presence, His power, and His transforming grace in every area of your life.
Prayer: Father, let my life continually bring glory to Your name as I worship You in spirit and in truth, in Jesus’ name.
