Topic: Do you fear God?
Bible Reading: Psalm 126-129; Romans 9.
Memory Verse: “Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.” Psalm 128:1 (KJV)
Scripturally, fear, according to Webster’s dictionary, “is a holy awe or reverence of God and His laws, which springs from a just view and real love of the divine character, leading the subjects of it to hate and shun everything that can offend such a holy being, and inclining them to aim at perfect obedience.” That is what God expects of believers as stated in Jeremiah 32:39 (KJV), “And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them”
So if you fear the Lord, you will revere, trust and obey Him always. You will seek to depart from evil and hate sin. But how do you know things that are sinful? It’s by understanding God and knowing His ways. This is why you should study the word of God and meditate on it regularly so that you will know His will and how He expects you to live with other people around you. The word of God says in 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV), “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
If you truly fear the Lord, you will show love to all your neighbour and live a life of holiness. You will not struggle doing His will because He has already given you a new heart the moment you give your life to Christ so all you need to do is follow the leading of the Holy Spirit in you. God is a great rewarder and so if you fear him as he commands, then you should expect his blessings. He says in Hebrews 11:6 (KJV), “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Part of our Bible passage for today, says in Psalm 128:1 (KJV), “Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.” The rest of the passage itemizes some of these blessings: they include; eating the fruit of your labour and being well with you ( vs 2); a joyous family (vs 3); you will get the blessings of the land in which you are resident for the rest of your life ( vs 5) and you will live long to see your grandchildren (vs 6). However these are for a believer. And so if you have not repented of your sins and accepted Jesus as the Lord and Saviour, you need to do so now so that you can have a new heart which will lead you to truly fear God.
Prayer point: Father, please remove from my life, whatever is working against my fear of You and help me to truly fear You for the rest of my life in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
