TOPIC: YIELD TO THE WITNESS OF THE SPIRIT
Bible Reading: Job 1–3; Acts 7:1–19
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” — Romans 8:16 (KJV)
One of the greatest blessings of the Christian life is knowing that God leads and directs His children. A primary way the Holy Spirit guides us is through the inward witness—an inner knowing, perception, or spiritual intuition. In Romans 8:16, the phrase “beareth witness” means to testify jointly or to agree with another. When you were born again, there may have been no outward signs, yet you knew within your heart that something had changed. That inner assurance that God is your Father and that you belong to Him was the witness of the Holy Spirit agreeing with your spirit.
This same inward witness remains with every believer and is not limited to the experience of salvation. The Bible says, “It is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth” 1 John 5:6 (KJV), and “He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself” 1 John 5:10 (KJV). As you grow in fellowship with God, you become more sensitive to this inward witness, enabling you to receive guidance, direction, and warnings concerning the affairs of life.
Apostle Paul demonstrated this sensitivity when he warned those sailing with him, saying, “Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage” Acts 27:10 (KJV). That perception was the inward witness of the Holy Spirit. Although it may not seem dramatic, it is just as supernatural as visions or dreams. Therefore, learn to value and obey the witness of the Spirit within you. As you yield to His promptings and follow His leading, you will walk in wisdom, avoid unnecessary dangers, and enjoy God’s direction in every area of your life.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the witness of Your Spirit within me. Help me to be sensitive to Your leading in Jesus’ name.
